Your apprenticeship – what, how, when?

|3 min read

You came for a taster day, you enjoyed it and you have been offered a place?

Then it is high time to make it official and welcome you to Team Gottwald! We agree the start date for your apprenticeship with you and draw up your apprenticeship contract.

You can read here what awaits you from that point on:

WELCOME ON BOARD

It is important to us that you feel at home from the very beginning. That is why your training starts with an apprentice week , in which all new apprentices come together at the Melk site.

During this week you get to know the company and your future colleagues better, receive training in materials science and take part in exciting team-building games. The week ends with the annual apprentice event, such as go-karting or river tubing. There you meet all the other year groups and take them on, together, in a battle against the management.

ORGANISATION – GENERAL

The training is organised in the "dual system" , which means it takes place both here in the company and at vocational school.

About 80% of the training time is spent at the company and 20% at vocational school. Each year you spend 10 weeks at school, deepening your technical and practical skills. Your apprenticeship as an electrical technician lasts 4 years; that of a technical draughtsperson lasts 3.5 years.

ORGANISATION – INTERNAL

Gottwald works on projects for the most varied clients: an advantage for you!

You get to know the electrical work involved in detached houses, hospitals, schools, hotels, supermarkets, football stadiums and more, and your experience is therefore broadly based.

During your apprenticeship you also gain a comprehensive insight into various departments , so that you understand the interfaces between them better. In the second year, for example, three weeks are planned in the instrumentation and control department, and in the third year three weeks in switchgear assembly.

AND WHAT ELSE?

Feedback is important if you are to develop!

So at regular intervals you fill in an assessment sheet with your colleague. That way you know for the following weeks which areas you can still improve in and where people are already very happy with you.

The Gottwald apprentice academy lets you develop beyond the trade itself. The annual personal development training gives you valuable skills for your professional and private future. The training is meant to help you understand your role as an apprentice, work on your ability to function in a team and handle conflict, and keep a cool head in stressful situations.

In the fourth year there is training on "working on low-voltage systems". If you like, you can also attend a KNX course.

YOUR QUALIFICATION

Once you have successfully completed your apprenticeship you can sit the final apprenticeship examination.

The examination has a theoretical and a practical part. As that time will be stressful enough, we want to support you with 4 extra days of leave immediately before the examination date. Your colleagues will also be glad to help with any questions about the exam material.
