Honouring Lower Austrian apprentices who graduated with distinction

|2 min read

Our apprentice Philipp Rötzer completed his apprenticeship with distinction and was honoured for it in January at the Festspielhaus in St. Pölten.

On Tuesday, 19 February 2019, Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner and Lower Austrian Chamber of Commerce President Sonja Zwazl invited to the Festspielhaus in St. Pölten those 659 apprentices who had passed their training with distinction between 1 December 2017 and 30 November 2018. In total, 5,426 apprentices passed their final apprenticeship examination during this period.

“The apprenticeship has a future. An apprenticeship is an incredibly good basis for building a career”, said the Governor in conversation with presenter Alex Kristan, congratulating the apprentices on their outstanding achievements. “The economy is running at full speed, and at the same time there are too few skilled workers. We need more young people to start an apprenticeship”, she continued, recalling the province’s 46-million-euro apprenticeship package. That creates new prospects for young people and is at the same time an answer to the shortage of skilled workers, Mikl-Leitner said of the initiative.

Lower Austrian Chamber of Commerce President Sonja Zwazl explained: “We are very proud of our young people.” An apprenticeship is a highly qualified training, she emphasised. “As a well-qualified skilled worker you can lead a fulfilling and economically successful working life. For apprentices it is important to look beyond their own horizons and to go abroad as well.” In this connection the Chamber of Commerce offers a four-week scholarship with a work placement abroad, the President explained.

Klaus Lehmerhofer spoke about the EuroSkills European vocational championships in Budapest in September 2018, where he won the European title in automotive technology. Andreas Onea, Paralympic swimmer and presenter, described how he found his way back into life after a serious car accident. The musical accompaniment came from Luke Andrews from Feistritz am Wechsel, who lived in London for a year to work on his career as a musician. Now he is back – and very successful with his songs “Coming Home” and “Laura”. Director of Education Johann Heuras also attended the event.

Our warmest congratulations to Philipp on his success!
