Apprenticeship and career

Tobias in interview – an apprentice at Gottwald

|3 min read

Tobias, you chose an apprenticeship as an electrical technician at Gottwald and you are currently in your final year. What made you apply to Gottwald?

I knew about Gottwald's good reputation and thought I would first see for myself on a taster day. I could see that the electrical technician's job is very varied and full of change. I also liked the fact that colleagues treat each other respectfully and in a friendly way – there is a good spirit. The taster day was decisive in my decision to start an apprenticeship at Gottwald.

How have you found your apprenticeship so far? What do you particularly enjoy?

I have now been able to gather more than three years of Gottwald experience and I really have to say that there is almost nothing I do not enjoy. I appreciate that my working days are very varied and that I have been able to work both on smaller regional projects and on really large sites. The coolest project so far for me was the Austria rehabilitation centre in Bad Schallerbach, because I was given a lot of responsibility there.

What about contact with your fellow apprentices? Do you talk to each other, or perhaps even spend your free time together?

It is actually the case that some friendships have developed. Gottwald lays the foundation right at the start of the apprenticeship with apprentice week . All the new apprentices come together at the Melk site for a week and get to know each other properly through team games, a puzzle rally and various training sessions. On the last day there is a team event for all apprentices. This year we went river tubing on the Danube with a barbecue afterwards; last year we went go-karting at the ÖAMTC ring – both were really brilliant! Generally speaking: Gottwald values good company! That is why as many outings and celebrations as possible are organised – from the fitters' outing, technicians' hiking day, ladies' day, ski day and Shrove Tuesday through to the summer party and the Christmas celebration.

In your view, why should someone start an apprenticeship at Gottwald, and what tips would you give future apprentices?

Because it is great that the working day is varied, you definitely do not get bored and the day goes by quickly. Alongside a good starting salary, you can be sure at Gottwald that people treat each other in a friendly way – so you are glad to come to work.

Listen carefully – ask questions – pay attention! We are always glad of new people in the team!

Would you like to know more about an apprenticeship at Gottwald? You can become part of the team in just 5 steps!
