Once you have completed your training as an electrical technician, you can benefit from a wide range of career opportunities – and your future prospects are excellent.
But first, let’s go back to the beginning …
What will you learn during your apprenticeship?
The electrical engineering apprenticeship is a modular apprenticeship made up of a basic module, a main module and a special module. In your dual training, you learn the practical basics directly with us at the company and the theory at vocational school.
Basic module
This is the same for all apprentices and lasts 2 years. It teaches the core skills of electrical engineering.
Main module: electrical and building services engineering
The focus is on installing, commissioning, maintaining, servicing and repairing electrical building services systems as well as electrical machines, devices and installations. This module lasts 1.5 years.
Special module: building management systems
In just six months, you can acquire highly specialised know-how that puts you one step ahead of others.
What personal qualities do you need to succeed in this job?
As a budding electrical technician, you bring a passion for all things technical. Perhaps even as a child you were fascinated by the inner workings of electronic devices, or admired the distribution board? A solid technical understanding and the ability to pick things up quickly will help you through your apprenticeship years. You should also be physically fit, as your working day is usually spent not at a desk but on a construction site.
A meticulous and precise way of working is especially important, because when it comes to technology, every detail has to be right. After all, you are responsible for other people’s safety. You also need a head for heights, as you will often be working high up to maintain or repair electrical installations.
Apprenticeship complete – what next?
Our big goal is to keep our apprentices with the company once their training is over, too. That’s why we make sure you feel well looked after and properly supported throughout your training. After your apprenticeship, the skills you have acquired open up many different paths. For example, you can take the master craftsman’s exam so that you can lead a team as a senior electrician. Or you can develop further in an office-based role, proving your skills as a technician or technical draughtsperson, or in switchboard assembly or the warehouse. This wide range of opportunities makes the electrical engineering apprenticeship – and us as a training company – particularly attractive.
And what about my pay?
The electrical engineering apprenticeship is one of the top 10 best-paid apprenticeships. What’s more, once you have finished your apprenticeship, you benefit from installation allowances, which are paid on top when you work on construction sites.
You definitely don’t need to worry about unemployment if you are thinking about training as an electrical technician. If anything, you will be spoilt for choice and can pick your employer.
Come and see Gottwald for yourself on our taster days, and start a promising career with a future at our company!
We look forward to meeting you!
