Anticipation for this year's ladies' day on 2 October 2021 was all the greater because it had to be cancelled the year before. In all, 23 of our Gottwald women from the store, the wine shop and the offices, along with 2 of our valued pensioners, met at midday to spend a convivial afternoon together. Travelling by coach with Johann Bernhuber, the ladies set off at 12 noon sharp for Schönberg am Kamp, where an interesting two-and-a-half-hour tour of the Straußenland ostrich farm awaited them. The senior owner took the time personally to tell them everything worth knowing about these fascinating birds and about Austria's largest open-air ostrich enclosure.
After so much new knowledge it was finally time to treat the ladies to something for the palate. Every gourmet among them was well served at Weingut Schmelz in Joching. As well as the chance to taste various wines, there was a generous cold buffet and quark dumplings with stewed plums for anyone with a sweet tooth.
At 7 p.m. the coach set off back to Melk.
