Just in time for the start of the 2022/2023 winter season, on Thursday, 8 December 2022, the newly built Galsterbergbahn in the Schladming-Dachstein region was opened. The modern 10-seater gondola lift replaces the pulsed gondola, which was more than 30 years old, and offers its passengers greater comfort with upholstered individual seats, generous legroom and a 360° panoramic view.
The new lift provides a significantly higher transport capacity, as its throughput has more than doubled. In its final configuration – with 45 gondolas – it can carry 1,800 people per hour. The journey takes 6.5 minutes from the valley station up to the mountain station at 1,650 metres.
The station buildings were also redesigned. On exactly the same sites as before, the valley and mountain station buildings now feature the regional “shingle look” so that they blend in well with the landscape.
The contract covered the complete electrical installation. In addition to the standard installation work (emergency lighting, lightning protection, earthing, IT, alarm systems, electric heating, etc.), there were a number of exciting challenges to master in the power supply for the detachable monocable gondola.
Due to the difficult logistics, particularly at the mountain station, careful planning and forward-looking coordination across all trades were essential to keep to the tight construction schedule.
