With the new South Station building a modern and sustainable infrastructure was created at AKH Vienna, ensuring the hospital's operations during extensive modernization measures. The new building comprises five levels with approximately 5,380 sq ft of usable space, 46 patient rooms with 88 beds, 45 therapy rooms and a day clinic. By temporarily relocating clinical areas, the historic East Ward building can be renovated without compromising patient care. The resource-efficient timber module construction with a wooden façade supports the principles of the circular economy.
Gottwald was responsible for the entire electrical engineering infrastructure. Implemented were power supply, cabling, support systems, electrical installations, lighting systems, and the grounding and lightning protection system. Additionally, the connection to the existing technical infrastructure of the hospital site was carried out.
A particular challenge was the high fire protection requirements in conjunction with the timber construction and the complex building geometry. Through close collaboration among all project stakeholders, the requirements were successfully met.
