Spitzer Graben I Spitz
In 2001, 80 Wachau winegrowers founded a cooperative to secure irrigation for the vineyards in the Spitzer Graben. The irrigation system had since come of age, so the vineyards had to be watered by hand again. Replacing the PLC controller has brought the irrigation system back into operation.
A submersible pump draws water from a well in the Danube and feeds it via a booster station into the Spitzer Graben, where it is distributed to the various vineyards. The whole system is operated and regulated from a control panel in the central station. Each year 65,000 m³ of Danube water are drawn, which in turn can irrigate 60 hectares of vineyards.
We supported the Spitzer Graben irrigation cooperative in renewing the system by replacing the old controller, together with the associated installation and programming work. We are glad to have been part of this project — an unusual one for us — and to have helped one or two grapes on their way to becoming wine.
