On Wednesday, 28 August 2024, the day had finally arrived: after just one year of construction, the official opening ceremony of the Gottwald extension took place in Melk.
Around 80 invited guests – politicians, contractors, tradespeople, suppliers, Gottwald employees, press and neighbours – arrived at 9:30 for a festive reception in front of the entrance to the extension. Among them were the guests of honour: Federal Minister of the Interior Mag. Gerhard Karner, state councillors Mag. Christine Teschl-Hofmeister and Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig, President of the Lower Austrian Chamber of Labour (AKNÖ) Markus Wieser, District Governor Mag. Daniela Obleser, Abbot Georg Wilfinger, Mayor of Melk Patrick Strobl, Chamber of Commerce district chair KommR Silvia Rupp and Chamber of Commerce district manager Dr. Andreas Nunzer. In glorious sunshine and with a cool aperitif in hand, guests could relax and chat with one another. The Stadtkapelle Melk (Melk town band) opened proceedings with music and added to the cheerful mood.
At 10:00, the opening programme began in the training room of the extension. Gerhard Prohaska stepped in as host at short notice – many thanks to him for that – and guided everyone through the event.
After the welcome, managing directors Jürgen, Peter and Bernd Gottwald were invited onto the stage together with architect Christian Guger of Atmo. They gave insights into the idea, planning, construction and completion of the extension.

Afterwards, the host interviewed Federal Minister of the Interior Mag. Gerhard Karner, state councillors Mag. Christine Teschl-Hofmeister and Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig, AKNÖ President Markus Wieser and Mayor Patrick Strobl in a panel discussion. The talk covered current challenges relating to the economy, apprenticeships, family-friendliness and security.

In keeping with tradition, the new wing was blessed. The blessing was performed by Abbot Georg Wilfinger of Melk Abbey, accompanied by music from the Stadtkapelle Melk.
The doors remained open to anyone interested. The management team was on hand to answer questions and gave guests a tour of the new premises in the extension, taking in the training workshop, the modern offices, the new break area and the hidden heart of the building: the company childcare facility.

The official part was followed by a relaxed get-together in the lounge area to round off the event, where guests took the opportunity to chat. Getränkehandel Haberl kept everyone supplied with cool drinks and the odd glass of good wine, while summery finger-food treats from Fleischerei & Catering Sdraule provided the perfect finishing touch.
All in all, we were able to celebrate a successful opening of the Gottwald extension with a great many guests. We would like to thank everyone who took the time to visit us and raise a glass with us to the completion of the project.
