What an honour! On Thursday 22 February 2024 Jürgen Gottwald and our EuroSkills 2023 European runner-up and lead fitter, Florian Steffek, packed their bags and flew as representatives for Austria to Brussels and the European Economic and Social Committee for the event “Meet the Champions of Excellence”.
The aim of the event is to promote vocational education as an attractive and effective route for young people. It took place in a context in which vocational education still has a poor reputation compared with university education, even though graduates of vocational programmes have considerably better prospects on the labour market than graduates of general education.
Participants had the chance to take part in discussions with young champions from the EuroSkills competitions, to watch demonstrations of their various skills and to attend plenary sessions and several parallel sessions on topics such as transnational mobility (Erasmus+) and tackling gender stereotypes.
It was a great honour to have been chosen by the Lower Austrian Chamber of Commerce as representatives for Austria at this event. Many thanks for that!
