The mountain calls! Technicians’ hike 2022

|2 min read

On Friday 23 September 2022 the order of the day was once again: lace up your boots and head for the mountains!

Early in the morning 15 Gottwald colleagues set off on the two-day hiking trip to Admont. Fortified beforehand with bacon and cheese pastries from Bäckerei Obruca, they headed at around 9 a.m. into the (initially) foggy mountains of the Gesäuse. The goal for the day: to climb the Riffel (2,106 m) and reach the Mödlinger Hütte for the night.

It was not long before the weather gods smiled on the hiking party and the Gesäuse showed itself at its best. The first stop was at the Oberste Klinke hut. There they prepared themselves mentally for the ascent of the Riffel, which given the current snow was going to be a challenge.

The Gottwald team – as determined as ever – trudged tirelessly towards the summit. The amount of snow increased with every metre of altitude until they were finally almost knee-deep in it. Following common sense, the walkers turned back at a good 1,900 metres and, instead of the summit, visited the Oberste Klinke hut a second time. The landlord will have been happy enough about that … and so was the team ;-)

After more than 1,700 metres of ascent and a distance of 24 km, the Gottwald team arrived at the Mödlinger Hütte at around 6 p.m. with slightly weary legs. Once their energy reserves had been replenished by a hearty mountain-hut meal, the appetite for entertaining card and team games was all the greater. It took several more hours before the whole party fell into their bunks – a thoroughly entertaining evening !

The next day there was a leisurely breakfast together, followed by the descent back to Admont, where a fine meal at the Gasthaus Der Kamper crowned the trip.
