“The paths people take are not always the straight ones mapped out for them. Sometimes it takes a few detours, turnings and loops before they finally arrive.”
Since 1767 there has been the Heinrich winery, which Silvia Heinrich runs with great passion and dedication. It was not always clear that she would be the one to take over the family business.
After almost ten years in the news industry, Silvia Heinrich decided in 2002 to follow tradition after all – and at the same time to get the family business moving with a fresh breeze and plenty of new ideas. She owes that to her brother, who had actually been earmarked as the successor but had no interest in making wine. With her father as a calming influence and her mother as an energetic supporter, she succeeded in producing award-winning wines of the highest quality. She travelled the world with her friends and, over a good glass, drew inspiration from the colourful and varied impressions.
“The most important thing is a love of wine. Anything you do with love, you do well”, says Heinrich, who has long since found her calling in it.
The vineyards are like children to whom she wants to give her very best, tending and caring for them. She recognised the signs of the times early on: changing climatic conditions, and demand for sustainable wines and wines with a lower alcohol content.
“Back to the school bench?” As a member of the advisory boards of Burgenland Tourism and the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences, she is now delighted to pass on the knowledge she has built up over many years – and would happily go straight back to studying herself to satisfy her thirst for knowledge.
Silvia Heinrich devotes herself with particular dedication to Blaufränkisch – it is grown in two thirds of her vineyards and has even been honoured by Falstaff. In our wine shop too you will find many exquisite wines from this vivacious, innovative winemaker.
