Making the most of glorious weather – up the mountain

In brilliant sunshine on Friday 1 October, 19 employees of Gottwald laced up their boots to explore the Dachstein region together over two sporting days. Early in the morning two nine-seater minibuses and a car set off for Weißenbach. Packed for the trip: good spirits, high motivation and tasty provisions from Bäckerei Teufner.

From the starting point in Weissenbach (721 m) the route led past the rushing Gradenbach waterfall, steeply upwards to the Ahornsee and on to the picturesque Grafenbergsee. After a very ambitious 1,700 metres of ascent,

7.5 to 8.5 hours of walking, a consistently magnificent setting and the odd badly worn walking boot, the day's goal was reached: the Guttenberghaus at 2,146 m.

There the employees spent several convivial hours over a generous dinner, various card games and entertaining conversation. At 10.30 p.m. the whole party was forced into bed by the compulsory hut curfew – very much to their advantage for the next day's walking.

On Saturday, all those who wanted more climbed the Scheichenspitze (2,664 m) before descending via the Edelgrieß and the Austriahaus to Ramsau. Another day with 1,000 metres of ascent behind them – a sporting team achievement that every one of them can be truly proud of.
