Florian Steffek, an experienced electrical technician, achieved a superb result at EuroSkills 2023 in Gdansk: he took second place in electrical installation. This impressive success is the result of years of hard work, dedication and a strong bond with his company.
From apprentice to European runner-up
Florian discovered his passion for electrical engineering at an early age. By the time he was 15 he knew his professional future lay in this field. His search for the right apprenticeship led him, happily for us, to our door. Florian chose the electrical technician apprenticeship and has since spent eight successful years with us. During that time he has worked on a wide variety of projects, gained valuable experience and driven his own development forward.
The year 2019 marked an important turning point in Florian's career. On the recommendation of his vocational school, and with the support of our technical director, Thomas Grossinger, he entered an apprentice competition for the first time. We supported him in his preparation and Florian took the regional title. That competition, quite different from the everyday demands of the job, taught him precision and efficiency – skills that serve him well in his daily work too.
Florian received support not only at competitions but also in his professional ambitions. Thanks to his determination, staying power and the backing of his team, he reached his career goals. For three years now he has been a lead fitter and currently works as an installation inspector.
Florian took on his next big challenge in September 2023, representing Austria and our company at EuroSkills in Gdansk in electrical installation. Months of preparation on our company premises and at a training camp in Switzerland paid off. Although anticipation was mixed with excitement and nerves, Florian had a clear goal in mind: to perform at his training level under competition pressure and show what he can do.
His ambition was rewarded when he won the silver medal and was crowned European runner-up.
“Taking part in EuroSkills 2023 was a big challenge for me. I'm delighted that the hard work of the past weeks and months paid off and that I brought home silver for Austria and for Gottwald. But it isn't only the medal I'm taking home: I also gained a lot of new contacts and insights into how people work in other countries,” says Florian.
