14 everyday energy-saving tips

|2 min read

Saving energy can be so simple. There are countless small steps that can make a big difference. Saving electricity, heat and water is good for the environment and saves energy, money and resources at the same time. The less energy is used in the home, the less energy has to be produced and supplied. That significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions, which in turn has a positive effect on the habitat of people and animals.

Our 14 energy-saving tips for you:

  1. Energy rating to be considered when buying appliances.
  2. Do not place the fridge next to appliances that give off heat (cooker, dishwasher, heating and so on).
  3. Switch to a ceramic or induction hob.
  4. Use a lid when cooking: otherwise steam simply escapes.
  5. Use the residual heat: the hob ring can be switched off about 5 minutes before the end.
  6. Use warm water to bring it to the boil.
  7. Fan heat saves more energy than conventional top and bottom heat, as the heat is distributed better.
  8. Every time you open the oven, 20% of the heat is lost and has to be replaced.
  9. Check for dripping taps : one drip a second adds up to 20 litres a day.
  10. Fit LED bulbs: that can save 90% of the energy needed.
  11. Keep radiators clear and bleed them : if furniture or curtains are placed in front of radiators, heat builds up, which means too much heat is produced. Bleeding them regularly prevents the heating water circulating incorrectly and ensures the best possible heat output.
  12. Close doors : closing doors to unheated rooms can save up to 5% of energy.
  13. Air in short bursts: windows left permanently tilted cool the walls too much. Better: air the room in short bursts three times a day.
  14. Replace appliances that are real energy guzzlers with newer, energy-efficient ones. When replacing them it often makes sense to use innovative instrumentation and control technology. Smart home systems help you manage your household energy and save electricity and heating energy.
